Meet Vicki Casper!
Her favorite non-World Vision hobbies include traveling, meeting new people, and being with her family. She is a Southwest Airlines flight attendant. She has been in this career for 30 years and she met her husband, Mike, flying together 29 years ago. They have three 20-something children: Ryan, Rachel, and Caralina. Their lives have joyfully revolved around them and they still have the two girls at home, as they attend local colleges. Vicki says it is one of her greatest joys to serve as a World Vision Child Ambassador. She is a charter member and has been diligently serving with us for the past 11 years! She says she can't imagine her life without this ministry. The blessings of seeing a person sponsor and the joy they get is one of her favorite things in life. She is thrilled for the sponsored child and their community, but she also knows how life changing it is for the sponsor. For Vicki this is a team sport. Her family has been alongside her in this pursuit of justice and that has brought her so much joy. She agrees that it has enriched all of their lives. They all truly love people and that love extends across the world!
Vicki has been a sponsor since she was a little girl. As her children were getting a little more independent, she began looking for something to do with her free time that would better the world. It was at this time that she received the WV Magazine and saw the very first call for Child Ambassadors. She says, "This sent my heart to heaven as I thought that I could actually be part of helping children like the ones I already sponsored have a better life." She says she's grateful that her parents had always taught her about those in need and as a family they had watched the WV telethon. She was so excited that she could actually touch lives in faraway places from her home in Oceanside, California.
Vickie, could you tell us a little bit about your favorite event/favorite sponsorship story as a CA?
My favorite sponsorship story is when I met three young children at an event. They just poured over the picture folders with big hearts for the children. They picked a child and went back to their apartment. What happened next was just so sweet! They brought homemade cookies down to the event and set up an impromptu bake sale. They sold the cookies and earned the first month of support to show their parents how sincere they were about helping with sponsorship. It was beautiful!
Which scripture/quote gives you encouragement in this ministry?
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9
