Meet Tessa Will!
Her favorite non-World Vision hobby is reading.
She has been married to Jim for 25 years. They have three girls. The oldest, Lauren, is 22 and a Junior in college at Concordia University, Irvine, CA. Lauren is hoping to teach art to little kids one day. Their middle child, Hannah, is 19 and a Sophomore at Azusa Pacific University. She is currently persuing a degree in Global Studies and is hoping to go on to Law school. She hopes to follow in her Mom's footsteps and use her degree to help children living in poverty. Their youngest is Emma. She is 16 and is a Junior in high school. She has a beautiful singing voice and wants to be an opera singer in Europe. The entire family helps Tessa in her role as a CA. Their favorite thing to do together is travel.
Tessa became a CA in 2005 when the program began. She is one of the founding members and has been with us through so many transitions. She had reached a point where she could not be in ministry at her church and was asking God to show her how she could be of use to Him and for Him. Two weeks later she got a card in the mail that was addressed, “Dear long-time sponsor, We are beginning this new volunteer ministry and wonder if you’d be interested in it…” She was and she went through the lengthy process of interviewing, background checks, letters of recommendation, but after all these years she's still here!
Tessa, could you tell us a little bit about your favorite event/favorite sponsorship story as a CA?
I think one of my favorite sponsorship events was actually a recent one. I went to speak at this tiny Philippino church where the pastor is just on fire to change the world and has such a global outlook. There were maybe 35 adults at the service, including my husband and one of my kids. 10 little children got sponsored that morning. Some people took two! God is good.
Is there a bit of encouragement you could give to other CA's?
Over the years, the most important thing I have learned is that people’s hearts are changed not by the fabulous impact of my words, but by the fabulous intervening of the Holy Spirit. If we are willing to just talk to people about those things that are important to us, like sponsorship, then that’s what God is calling us to do. The story of WHY. Why do we care about kids , families and communities we will probably never see or meet? That’s how we share. We don’t have to be eloquent, just available for God to use us.
Which scripture/quote gives you encouragement in this ministry?
“Let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.” - 1 John 3:18 and
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” - Jeremiah 29:11-13
