Meet Wendy Hemphill.
Her favorite non-World Vision hobbies include learning simple homesteading practices and then trying them out.
She and her husband, Kim, are empty-nesters. They have four amazing kids who live in Nashville, TN. They love seeing and visiting them and get to do so often. Wendy & Kim live in the Huntsville, AL area and love ministering to folks there. They are northern transplants with southern hearts.
When asked what made her become a CA she says Nontobeko did. Nontobeko was the very first child she sponsored. She changed Wendy's heart and through that she saw just how much of an impact sponsorship has.
Wendy, could you tell us a little bit about your favorite event/favorite sponsorship story as a CA?
My favorite story is mine, actually! My daughter, Paula, was a CA and somehow we were not hearing that WE needed to sponsor. Paula gave us Nontobeko for a Christmas present and committed to pay for it for that year. She told us, if at the end of the year we didn't want to sponsor, that she would take her back, no problem. God used Nontobeko to begin to transform our hearts. By Father's Day, we were looking for the next child to sponsor.
Is there a bit of encouragement you could give to other CA's?
You are like a farmer. Plant seeds. Be patient. Be sure to tend the seeds you've planted whenever possible. Remember that where your heart is today is not where it was 5 or 10 years ago. Give people time to grow.
Which scripture/quote gives you encouragement in this ministry?
The mother of our sponsored boy, Webster, in Zimbabwe wrote to us, "You mean something to my life. You have changed our life from zero to hero." - Rosemary
