Meet Randi Jo Rooks!
Randi Jo's favorite hobbies include all things having to do with books, games, sunshine, and nature-- especially the beach.
Randi Jo and her husband, Brandon, live in southeast North Carolina. She gushes when she speaks of Brandon saying she's a "wife to the best man I know!" Randi Jo is a homeschooling mommy of 3 precious kiddos. She was born a Jersey girl but made to be a Carolina girl. Life is good in the South.
Randi Jo, can you tell us how you came to be a CA:
I remember the exact date. It was August 28, 2013. I was sitting in the playroom with my 2 youngest and was talking to the Lord about all the skills I had laid down-- sacrificed at His feet years ago-- that had gone unused. All of a sudden I just felt a very deep conviction that the Lord was communicating to me that it was time for Him to give me back some of those skills. He would give them back to me but now those skills would be for His glory and under His authority-- to glorify Him and to help others. I really thought that I would have to wait for months to hear the next step (since that's what He often does in my life). But I was shocked when a few days later I got a flier from WV in the mail explaining that they were looking for Child Ambassadors. I was so touched and just knew that this was exactly what He was preparing me for. I know there's so much more to come on this journey, but I am doing my part to be in this for the long haul: to persevere, to not give up, to have faith that the smallest seeds can be so powerful in God's hands, and to patiently wait on His timing!
Randi Jo, could you tell us a little bit about your favorite event/favorite sponsorship story as a CA?
Each sponsor has a story and I just can't choose a favorite. But that being said, one of my favorite things to hold onto while I'm sharing is this: I never want to lose the perspective that the heart of the person in front of me is just as important as the heart I am advocating for. We aren't simply trying to get from people... we are giving them such an amazing opportunity! Sponsorship itself is an amazing opportunity, but the opportunity to communicate to people the truth about God's love is equally amazing! God will bring some people into your life because they are meant to be WV sponsors, but He may also use WV as a conversation opener to get to the heart & soul of a person that needs to hear the truth about God's compassionate, loving heart. Look for what He is doing in the person you are speaking to. Always make sure you are being a good steward of the heart in front of you as well as the hearts you advocate for!
Is there a bit of encouragement you could give to other CA's?
Although my specific goals and plans change, I have kept one specific goal every month and I believe it has had the most impact. That goal is to do ONE thing for World Vision every single day. Things like: bring up WV in a conversation, pray specifically for a friend you want to ask, make an ask, call to set up a meeting, etc. But I encourage you to do one thing every day and watch how the Lord uses small steps and encourages you!
Which scripture/quote gives you encouragement in this ministry?
God doesn't call the equipped, He equips the called.
