Meet Dave Thompson.
His favorite hobbies include hiking in National Parks, mountain biking, and getting "love" tackled by his six grandchildren (individually and all at once)!
Dave is from a large family in a small Michigan town. He is a Quality & Procurement professional in the Tech field. He and his amazing wife, Sherry, currently reside in Austin, Texas where they have lived for 15+ years. He and Sherry have been married for over 35 years and have two grown children who are married. Dave says his wife, children, and grandkids are life's greatest blessings and he counts them as the most humbling gift from God-- for which he is immensely grateful.
Dave, can you tell us about what made you become a CA?
I read The Hole In Our Gospel and was inspired to do something-- not knowing the CA role existed. About one month later, Sherry and I went on a rare Monday evening dinner to talk about what we could do. Little did we know that World Vision had emailed us at the same time inviting us to be CAs. I can take a hint. It's been five years and counting as a CA now!
Dave, could you tell us a little bit about your favorite event/favorite sponsorship story as a CA?
Sherry and I sponsor five girls. The girls are from Zambia & Ecuador. We had the opportunity to meet Sarah in Ecuador. While there her mother told us a story through a translator: Several months prior to our sponsorship her husband was injured at work. She was very concerned and prayed to God. Shortly thereafter, a knock came on their door from a World Vision representative. They told her Sarah had been sponsored. We had no way of knowing this when we felt led to sponsor her, but we were the answer to her prayers! Those hugs from Sarah, her mom, and grandma won't ever be forgotten.
Is there a bit of encouragement you could give to other CA's?
This is more than being a volunteer, it's a calling to fulfill His mission and YOU are a part of it. Do it all for His glory. Maintain that perspective and you will do fine.
Which scripture/quote gives you encouragement in this ministry?
"Honor God, love family, help others, pursue excellence!" - Lee Boss (our former pastor)
