Meet Candice East!
Her favorite non-World Vision hobbies include quiet walks and sitting in nature losing track of time!
Candice has been married to Denny for seven years. She says it's been a great adventure-- including seven military moves. Denny served in the US Navy and got out in July 2015. He then began his MBA at Duke University in Durham, NC (Go Blue Devils!!!). They are parents to two precious disciples: Jordan (5) and Addison (3). They very much enjoy their life as a college family. Candice is a prayer warrior and her love for the Lord spills out of her anytime you get a chance to interact with her.
Candice, can you tell us how you came to be a CA:
I had sponsored a child since 2007. I did this mostly because my parents did. My sponsored child is Komol who lives in Bangladesh. After many years I received two postcards from World Vision asking me if I had ever considered becoming a CA. The Lord's timing is always perfect! About 6 months before this I had begun to walk with the Lord daily-- learning to let Him lead through hours of quiet time and in prayer daily. I threw the first postcard away, but I took the second postcard to Him in prayer and tried to offer the excuse that I didn't have time for it. He reminded me that it was He who had recently lead me away from my job as a nurse, that it was He who I proclaimed to be following these days, and that this was to be part of His plan for me. So I said, "Yes, Lord!" And here I am today. Thank you, Jesus!!!!
Candice, could you tell us a little bit about your favorite event/favorite sponsorship story as a CA?
Every time a child is sponsored I am in awe of how God went ahead to prepare the way. I love all of the stories, but if I must pick one it would probably be this one: I had prayed for the Lord to lead me to the next person who will sponsor a child. A name popped into my mind within the next few hours and I felt prompted to check in with her on Facebook messenger-- where I had shared with her about 6 months prior. At that time she shared that she and her husband always wanted to sponsor a child but could not afford it. When I wrote her the message to check in I closed my eyes as I hit send and walked away from my phone hoping I didn't bother her by asking again. A few hours later she explained how the Lord had blessed them financially and they wanted to sponsor one child for each of their three children!!! God said, "You see? Follow me, child, I have a perfect plan!"
Is there a bit of encouragement you could give to other CA's?
Do not be discouraged. God has called you to this! Every experience is teaching you something. He has this. NOT you (I'm still learning this huge lesson). Pray! Pray! Pray! Over child folders, over your ministry, for World Vision as an organization. Thank Him for what He is doing and is about to do.
Which scripture/quote gives you encouragement in this ministry?
Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is part of it. - 1 Corinthians 12:27
I love how it says we are a part of the body. We are not all of it, but just a part. This is teamwork. We are #GreaterTogether.
