Meet April Wright.
April's favorite non-World Vision hobby is taking in a film. Especially disaster movies. She loves the special effects!
April and her family live a block away from their church, so they serve on a lot of different teams. April is involved with the elementary and middle school kids. Her 18-year-old son, Dylan, and her 16 year-old daughter, Anna, also serve in these ministries with her. April's husband, Norm, is also very involved-- serving on three teams: greeters, parking, and he plays bass for the praise & worship team. Their 13 year-old, Emily, is a greeter as well. Dylan is also on the praise & worship team. He plays guitar, keys, cello, & bass. At the moment, April is an administrative assistant and Norm is a water-well driller.
In 2006, after a lot of research, April chose to sponsor a young man named Dan from Uganda for her birthday. For April, sponsorship and service have always been about the children. Once her eyes were opened to the stories of children living in impoverished nations she knew had to do something more. April is one of the charter members of the Child Ambassador Program. She has been with us since the beginning!
April, could you tell us a little bit about your favorite event/favorite sponsorship story as a CA?
Shortly after becoming a sponsor, I found out about the Child Ambassador Program. I was very unsure if it was what God was calling me to do. So, I prayed. After praying I got an opportunity to share sponsorship at my church. So, I prayed again and decided if one kid was sponsored then I would sign up to be a CA. Twenty children were sponsored! I got what I prayed for and more!
Is there a bit of encouragement you could give to other CA's?
Lean on God for everything! If you need Him to do something, show you something, anything - just ask!
Which scripture/quote gives you encouragement in this ministry?
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. - 1 Corinthians 15:58
